AMP Concerts’ home shows may be no more, but Neal Copperman is making sure AMP-quality shows will be found in the Duke City. The AMP Gallery Series continues where the house concerts left off, offering a variety of music in an informal, community fashion (with a potluck to boot) at a local art gallery. This Friday, Feb. 15, AMP presents Caji and Salomé at the Windchime Champagne Gallery (518 Central SW) at 7:30 p.m. Caji and Salomé meld Brazilian guitar with songs from Portugal, Cuba, South America, Cabo Verde and France, creating sophisticated, romantic grooves. Tickets are $15 in advance at Brownpapertickets.com or Bookworks (4022 Rio Grande NW) and $20 at the door.

My Name Is Rachel Corrie

Rachel Corrie was killed in 2003 while trying to stop an Israeli bulldozer in the Palestinian area of Rafah. Alan Rickman and Katharine Viner took e-mails, parts of her journal and other writings, edited them together and created a one-women show, My Name is Rachel Corrie. Countdown to Zero, a Denver-based political theater collective, and Justice First! have teamed up to bring the performance to Albuquerque. Countdown to Zero’s Julie Rada will portray Corrie this Saturday, Feb. 16, and Sunday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. during this limited run at Out ch’YondA (929 Fourth Street SW). Tickets are $20 and reservations are recommended. Call 350-1276 or visit www.rachelabq.com for more info.

Westside Art Show

Every year, Matt Lutz from Rio Rancho High School hosts a juried art show featuring work by high school students from the west side of the river. Each school submits 20 pieces and the winners (who receive cash prizes) are selected by jury. West Mesa High School (6701 Fortuna NW) hosts the 2008 display with a reception on Friday, Feb. 15, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and a second viewing on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can also see this and past years’ winners at westsideartshow.com.

Loud Call For Poets

Out ch’Yonda’s annual 39-hour poetry jook joint marathon is coming up in April and poets are needed! The folks at Out ch’YondA are looking for volunteers to help host the event and, of course, to read some poetry or play music. If you’d like to get involved, call Amanda Rich at 242-4570 or e-mail her at thericachica@yahoo.com.
