Albuquerque artist (and former Alibi graphic designer) Neal Ambrose Smith’s print of Batman isn’t just a pink-and-orange rendering of the dark knight. It’s an intaglio print titled Sam Small Feathers and His Cape at the Fancy Shawl . Top that, Robin. Smith’s work hangs alongside 18 other printmakers’ at SCA Contemporary Art’s new show, INprint . Culture Shock Poetry On The Bus
ABQ Ride has been more artistic lately, displaying panels of women wearing their power outfits in conjunction with Trappings at 516 Arts. On Thursday, Aug. 28, winners of the Poetry on the Bus contest will be announced by Mayor Martin Chavez at a reception open to all 287 participants. The exemplary poems will be displayed on city buses throughout Albuquerque for the enjoyment of all publicly transported people. No winners have been leaked yet, but we’ll find out soon on the walls of the Rapid Ride.
Culture Shock Page To Stage
The Mother Road Theatre Company has put a lot of effort into mixing theater and conversation with the audience and the performers, as with the recent Young Playwrights Festival and its preseason Prebut . Continuing on that trend, Mother Road presents its first installment of Page to Stage, a program designed to let the audience participate in preproduction and conceptualization, at the Filling Station (1024 Fourth Street SW). This first installment features Conor McPherson’s The Weir , wherein three Irish lads trade spooky stories—until the exchange takes a turn toward the superbly strange. On top of readings from the script, the evening includes a discussion with the Mother Road design team and an appearance by UNM Irish history and mythology teacher Dr. Maya Sutton.
