Thursday 23 “Hip-Hop Awards ’08” (BET 7 p.m.) The night hasn’t even started and already we’ve got an upset: Katt Williams narrowly edges out go-to guy D.L. Hughley as host of a major Black awards show. Does this mean the BET Awards, the NAACP Image Awards, the Trumpet Awards and the Essence Awards might be looking to pimp their broadcasts as well? “Johnny Cash’s America” (Biography 7 p.m.) The Biography Channel devotes two hours to the life, times and tunes of Johnny Cash. “Celebrity Rehab” (VH1 8 p.m.) TV’s boldest experiment in schadenfreude returns for another season. Get Smart’s Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control (TBS 8 p.m.) If you loved this summer’s remake of “Get Smart” but were put off by the star power of Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway, you can check out this instant sequel featuring nerdy costars Masi Oka and Nate Torrence instead. Friday 24 “Doomed to Die? 13 Most Shocking Hollywood Curses” (E! 9 p.m.) Curses, huh? Well, that explains Britney’s hair-shaving as much as anything. The World’s Greatest Sinner (TCM midnight) This bizarro cult item from 1962 is written by, directed by and stars Timothy Carey. Carey (who made a career out of playing psychos) plays a bored insurance salesman who becomes a rock ’n’ roll evangelist, starts his own political party and is declared God. Frank Zappa wrote all the music. It remains one of the most notorious films of the Grindhouse era. Needless to say, you must see it. Saturday 25 Sex and Lies in Sin City: The Ted Binion Scandal (Lifetime 7 p.m.) Matthew Modine and Mena Suvari star in this true-life biopic about murdered casino mogul Ted Binion. Set in Vegas, of course, but shot right here in Albuquerque. “6Teen: Dude of the Living Dead” (Cartoon Network 7 p.m.) The popular mall-set teen cartoon lets loose a 45-minute Halloween special, complete with zombies. There’s just something about malls and zombies. “Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Championship Wrestling” (CMT 9 p.m.) My abject horror at discovering this reality series on CMT is slightly counterbalanced by my unhealthy desire to see Spandex-suited ’80s icon Tiffany get a piledriver to her ginger dome. Sunday 26 “Masterpiece Contemporary: The Last Enemy” (KNME-5 9 p.m.) After umpteen seasons of putting people in corsets, “Masterpiece Theater” goes modern, starting with this paranoia-filled spy thriller starring Robert Carlyle ( The Full Monty ). Monday 27 “Bizarre Foods Halloween Special” (Travel Channel 7 p.m.) What could Andrew Zimmern be eating on Halloween that’s any creepier than what he normally eats? Tuesday 28 “Coolio’s Rules” (Oxygen 11 p.m.) Question No. 1: Who gave “Gangsta’s Paradise” rapper Coolio his own reality show? Question No. 2: Why is it on Oprah’s Oxygen network? Wednesday 29 “Barack Obama Political Message” (KASA-2, KOB-4, KRQE-13 7 p.m.) Obama blows the last of his mad money on a half-hour, nationwide commercial. FOX has even promised to delay the start of the World Series Game 6 (assuming we need a Game 6) to accommodate it.
