Beloved Binge, an indie-pop duo from Durham, N.C., will pass through town on Friday, Feb. 20. to play a gig at Burt’s Tiki Lounge. This is of note to film fans because the group’s drummer, Eleni Vlachos, will screen a “humorous, pro-vegan documentary” she shot titled Seeing Through the Fence earlier in the evening. The screening begins at 5:30 p.m. at UNM’s School of Law, Room 2401. A Q&A with the director will take place at 6:30 p.m. Both film and concert are part of “Porch’n Tour,” a yearlong DIY tour the band embarked on this September. Reel World More Movies And Music

El Rey Theater’s Movies and Music series continues this Friday, Feb. 20, with a 21+ screening of the 1995 indie rock comedy Empire Records followed by performances by local faves Vertigo Venus, Pan!c and The Dirty Novels. Tickets are $7. Doors open at 7 p.m. Movie starts at 7:30. Music starts at 9:30.

Reel World Black Film

In honor of Black History Month, the New Mexico Film Office and the New Mexico Music Commission are offering a weekend of African-American films. On Friday, Feb. 20, at 6 p.m., the New Mexico Film Museum in Santa Fe will screen a pair of local shorts: “Three Wishes and a Half” written and directed by Tamarind King and “Friggatriskaidekaphobia” written by Gene Grant and directed by Darryl DeLoach. On Saturday, Feb. 21, beginning at 2 p.m., the Film Museum will screen the 1963 classic Lillies of the Field starring Sidney Poitier, followed by Spike Lee’s 1992 biopic Malcolm X at 3:40 p.m. The New Mexico Film Museum is located at 418 Montezuma in Santa Fe. Reel World Spoken Word

The public is invited to a cast-and-crew screening of Spoken Word to benefit the Chimayo Youth Conservation Corps and Cedar Tree, Inc. The screening happens Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m., at The Lensic theater in Santa Fe. Inspired by the poetry of Santa Fe performance poet Joe Ray Sandoval, Spoken Word takes viewers into the celebrated poet’s mind as he struggles to reclaim his self-expression after hitting rock bottom. This homegrown drama stars Kuno Becker ( Goal! ) and Rubén Blades ( The Milagro Beanfield War ) and is directed by Victor Nunez ( Ulee’s Gold ). Reel World Celebrate Film

The newly formed Film Industry Promotion Association invites film lovers to Viva NM Film!, a two-hour party at The Cowgirl BBQ in Santa Fe taking place Monday, Feb. 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door. Money raised will go to “protect our interests during this legislative season.” Come for food, drinks, a silent auction and information about the Film and Media Day taking place at the Santa Fe Roundhouse on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
