Reel World Animating Teens

Young, aspiring filmmakers interested in animation are invited to a free 3-D animation workshop at the Art Center Design College this Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to noon. The workshop is open to high school and charter school students, but space is limited. You can RSVP by contacting Catherine Fridey at 883-0094. Fridey is an artist/filmmaker who won a New Mexico/New Visions Contract Award from the state last November. She and several other animators are working on “The Sands of Time,” an animated travel series. During Fridey’s two-hour crash course, students will get to experiment with Maya software, tour a 3-D set and see a demo on digital sculpting. The Art Center Design College is located at 500 Marble NE.

Reel World “Crash” Casting

Dart Hardiman is a New Mexican film and digital media professional who is assisting with casting for the second season of “Crash” on Showtime. The series is looking to fill two very important demographic roles. One is for preteen to teenage African-American males to fill out a baseball team. There is also a featured extra position for an “attractive” African-American female who would have a recurring role on the series and an opportunity to get speaking lines. For more information on either part, contact Dart Hardiman at 974-8501.

Reel World Fresh Produce

For the second year in a row, New Mexico will be hosting the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) for their annual Latino Producers Academy. The deadline for documentary and feature track applications is Friday, June 5. The documentary track runs Aug. 4-13 and will concentrate on preproduction with producers and directors and postproduction with editors. The feature track will take place Aug. 11-21 and will assist producers and directors in early development and packaging. NALIP offers New Mexicans a chance to participate in this nationwide competition regardless of whether they’re of Hispanic descent and whether they’re a member of NALIP. This is a major hands-on opportunity for producers at all stages of their professional development. You can download an application by going to nalip.org.
