On Friday, Oct. 16, the Lomas Tramway Library (908 Eastridge NE) will host a Wizard of Oz 70 th Anniversary Celebration. Dress up as your favorite Oz character (the L. Frank Baum fantasy novel, not the HBO prison series) and show up to the library at 6 p.m. There will be “Emerald City” refreshments and a screening of the 70 th anniversary edition of the classic Hollywood film. Reel World Short Screams
A shot-in-New-Mexico film short will be screened this weekend at the prestigious Screamfest 2009 film festival in California. The horror film festival will take place at the historic Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. “Hunter’s Moon” is a 10-minute thriller about a career criminal who takes the woman he loves out into the desert to “interrogate” her, fearing she might be an informant. Reel World Submit To The Sands
If you’ve got a film you’d like to get shown in a film festival, the White Sands International Film Festival is actively looking for material. The Las Cruces-based festival doesn’t take place until April of 2010, but this Thursday, Oct. 15, marks the early-bird deadline for submitting films. The festival is looking for short or feature-length documentaries or narratives with a particular focus on “multicultural themes.” For complete submission information, visit wsiff.com. As with most festivals these days, all submissions are handled through www.withoutabox.com. If you can’t get your stuff together by Thursday, don’t panic. There will be other chances. Thursday’s deadline just saves you a few bucks in submission fees.
Reel World Give The Little Tramp Some Cash
The Center for Contemporary Arts in Santa Fe is hosting a benefit screening of the 1931 Charlie Chaplin classic City Lights this Sunday, Oct. 18, starting at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 (or just $5 for students), and money will go to help the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness.
