If you think the play’s the thing, you’re in luck; theater companies around the state are staging new works and well-loved classics throughout the holiday season (which, like it or not, we’re already in). Debuting on Friday, Nov. 6, Auxiliary Dog Theater (3011 Monte Vista NE) presents The Pavilion . Penned by Craig Wright and directed by Andie Rigler, this award-winning play focuses on the two halves of a high school’s cutest couple and what happens when they meet again 20 years later. That may sound a bit generic, but Wright has written for "Six Feet Under" and "Lost" and also holds a masters degree in divinity. If that résumé is any indication, prepare to be sad, confused, hopeful and a little turned on. The show runs through Nov. 29, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. All tickets are $12 and seats can be reserved by calling 254-7716. Go to auxdog.org for more. On Saturday, Nov. 7, bibliophiles can meet and mingle with their own at the Rio Rancho Holiday Book Fair for New Mexico Authors, Artists and Crafters . Co-sponsored by the New Mexico Book Co-op, ReadWest, LPD Press / Rio Grande Books, Hastings Rio Rancho and Reading New Mexico, the free event features special guests Anne Hillerman, Don Bullis, Martha Egan, Michael McGarrity and more. Vendors will sell books, craft items and art, allowing you to do the bulk of your holiday shopping all within the confines of the Rio Rancho Inn (1465 Rio Rancho Drive). Meet up to 100 local authors and publishers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Click “projects” at nmbookcoop.com for more info. See poets move from page and stage to the silver screen in WORD! Poets & Songwriters Movie Program . Billed as "films by and about writers," WORD! features full-length films on Carl Sandburg, Amiri Baraka, Robert Creeley and more. And while no tribute to spoken word would be complete without a bit about Jack Kerouac or Allen Ginsberg (check), the program’s short films also look at local poets such as Richard Vargas, Mary Oishi and Levi Romero. See WORD! Monday, Nov. 9, through Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Guild Cinema (3405 Central NE). To check out a list of the movies, go to guildcinema.com. As of press time, the schedule wasn’t finalized, so call 255-1848 to find out when what you want to see can be seen, see?
