Filmmaker ( Slumber Party Slaughterhouse ), author ( Direct Your Own Damn Movie ), SAG stuntman ( Gamer ) and occasional Alibi contributor Kurly Tlapoyawa will conduct a Film Fighter Workshop on March 7, 14 and 21, from 9 a.m. to noon. This three-day intro to fighting will focus on the basic principals of planning, blocking and executing fights scenes for film and television. The workshop will take place here in Albuquerque. Cost is $200 and space is extremely limited, so the sooner you sign up, the better. A $50 deposit will be required by Monday, March 1, in order to secure your place. Gina Carano
Speaking of mixed martial arts, MMA star Gina Carano will be in New Mexico shortly, shooting her feature film debut under acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh ( Ocean’s Eleven, Traffic, The Informant! ). Knockout is described as a spy thriller starring Carano as a blue-collar fighter recruited by a private, Blackwater-esque military group. Michael Douglas, Chris Cooper, Brian Cox and Ewan McGregor will co-star. The film is shooting primarily in Ireland, but is expected to lens in and around Santa Fe from March to April.

Reel World: Time For Rain Time For Rain

Desert Rain , the writing-directing debut of Steve Loff (whose previous credits include “Law & Order: SVU,” The Producers and Hitch ), will begin shooting here in New Mexico on Feb. 27. Producers are seeing local talent with “little or no speaking experience for opportunity in IMDB credit and experience.” This micro-budget thriller is backed by the Declaration of Independents movement and will circuit North America in film festivals later this year. If you’re interested in working as a stand-in, extra or supporting player, e-mail headshots to tito@tiguex.com. Use “Desert Rain” in your subject line.
