This Thursday, July 29, Fathom Events will put on Elvis on Tour: The 75th Anniversary Celebration. This one-night-only theatrical event, hosted by Priscilla Presley, will feature much of the last concert footage ever shot with the King of Rock ’n’ Roll. In addition to the more than 25 musical numbers, there will be special montage sequences (supervised by Martin Scorsese) showcasing Elvis’ early career in music and movies. The film will be simulcast locally at Downtown 14, Rio 24 and Cottonwood 16 beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12.50 and are available in advance through Fandango.com.

Reel World: Wolf Bites Wolf Bites

Educator and filmmaker Elke Duerr will give a presentation about Mexican Gray Wolves at The Kosmos (1715 Fifth NW) on Friday, July 30, at 8 p.m. Duerr will discuss the myths, fictions and facts about this endangered animal and will include footage and stills from her upcoming documentary Stories of Wolves—The Lobo Returns. The night’s program is designed as a fundraiser for the film, which examines in detail the Mexican Gray Wolf recovery program here in New Mexico. In addition to the lecture and screening, there will be a live jazz performance and a silent art auction. Tickets are $15 and are available for presale at wildwolffilm.com.

Don’t you forget: The newly revived Duke City Shootout will have its gala premiere screening this Saturday, July 31, beginning at 7 p.m. in UNM’s Popejoy Hall. Although organizers were forced to skip a year, this is the 10th anniversary Shootout. Six short films, all shot and edited here in the Duke City over the course of the last week, are set to debut at the gala premiere. This year, there’s even a bonus music video thrown in for good measure! Tickets are $20 and $25 and are on sale now through unmtickets.com. Grab ’em while you can.
