Museums are pretty nifty places. Anyone with a couple of bucks can show up and see something they would never be able to have in their house. Be it a priceless piece of art or a big dinosaur skeleton, museums kick schools’ butts when it comes to getting up-close-and-personal with far-out subjects. “All That Glitters” is a fun fundraiser for the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science Foundation so it can keep teaching young and old about the world around us. For $75 you can make sure the museum is in good financial shape for the future while munching on hors d’oeuvres and desserts, and voting on jewelry entered in a design competition. Get dazzling and ensure that Albuquerque continues to offer the best field trips around. The event takes place at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History (1801 Mountain NW), and you can get tickets at naturalhistoryfoundation.org.

First question: How does one get to be a bicycle historian? ’Cause that sounds like a sweet gig. But, more importantly, what the hell happened to Frank Lenz when he was riding his bike around the world back in the 1890s? Author David Herlihy can probably answer the first one pretty easily. The second is the subject of his book The Lost Cyclist , which traces Lenz’ trek to eastern Turkey, where Lenz disappeared on his way back to Europe. Get on your bike and ride to Bookworks (4022 Rio Grande NW) for this 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22 reading. More info is available at bkwrks.com/event/herlihy. If Lenz could ride almost all the way around the world before there were paved roads or even cars, you can certainly peddle around Burque!

Despite its successful run of Thoroughly Modern Millie last month, Musical Theatre Southwest still needs help recovering from the devastating fire that destroyed its warehouse. Enter Albuquerque native Neil Patrick Harris, who’s coming to town to raise funds for his former theater. Harris’ family owns Perennials Restaurant (6001 San Mateo NE), which is hosting a $150 per seat dinner on Sunday, Aug. 22. There are only 100 tickets available, so put down the paper right now and call 265-9119 to keep musical theater alive and say you’ve shared a meal with a Broadway star.
