The Fence (HBO 6 p.m.) HBO ponders the erecting of a barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Friday 17

“ Sym-Bionic Titan” (Cartoon Network 9 p.m.) The story—a group of teens pilots a giant robot to fight alien invaders—seems awfully familiar. But creator Genndy Tartakovsky of “Dexter’s Laboratory” and “Samurai Jack” fame does inspire a certain confidence.

Saturday 18

Fred: The Movie (Nickelodeon 6 p.m.) OK, just breathe easy and we’ll get through this. While I’m incredibly heartened by the fact that this long-promised—sorry, long-threatened —Fred movie is nothing more than a made-for-TV outing, I’m still horrified that it’s actually seeing the light of day. If you don’t already know prepubescent YouTube sensation “Fred Figglehorn,” do not, under any circumstances, Google the name. You cannot unsee the results. If you are 8 years old and still think this chipmunk-voiced demon from the sewers of hell is the funniest thing you’ve ever seen, please— please —do society a favor and grow up. All in all, I recommend not turning on the TV tonight, as you might accidentally catch a second or two of this humor-murdering film. Now, let’s never speak of this again.

Sunday 19

“Boardwalk Empire” (HBO 7 p.m.) How can you not get excited about a TV series about the booze-and-gambling-filled founding of Atlantic City? It’s written by Terence Winter (of “The Sopranos”), the pilot is directed by Martin Scorsese (the show’s executive producer) and it stars Steve Buscemi. Break out the Emmy Awards already!

Monday 20

“The Event” (KOB-4 8 p.m.) NBC unleashes the mother of all conspiracy theories. Whatever that may be.

“Lone Star” (KASA-2 8 p.m.) A two-timing con man romances his way to Texas oil riches in this new drama from the creators of “Party of Five” and the director of (500) Days of Summer .

“Mike & Molly” (KRQE-13 8:30 p.m.) Joining TV’s new wave of plus-sized shows (“Drop Dead Diva,” “Huge”) is this sitcom about two overeaters who fall in love.

“Chase” (KOB-4 9 p.m.) From überproducer Jerry Bruckheimer comes this weekly game of cops-and-robbers.

“Hawaii Five-0” (KRQE-13 9 p.m.) Detectives and bikinis? What can go wrong? … “Baywatch Nights,” notwithstanding.

Tuesday 21

“Running Wilde” (KASA-2 8:30 p.m.) “ Sleazy millionaire romances old high school sweetheart” sounds like a weak sitcom premise, but it does feature both cast and crew from “Arrested Development”—so, fingers crossed.

“Detroit 1-8-7” (KOAT-7 9 p.m.) Actually, “187” is California Penal Code for homicide. In Michigan, it’s “Section 750, Subsections 316 through 329a.” Which isn’t as sexy.
