Thursday 17

“Man Vs. Wild” (Discovery 7 p.m.) In this sixth season premiere, Bear Grylls shows us how to survive while trapped in the Arizona desert. … Great, where were you when that 127 Hours dude needed you, Bear?

“Sins & Secrets” (ID 8 p.m.) Investigation Discovery inspires tourism by exploring the shady criminal past of American cities, starting with Knoxville.

Friday 18

The Goddess (TCM 12:15 a.m.) TCM Underground digs up this trashy 1958 flick in which Kim Stanley plays a pill-popping Hollywood sex goddess. Yup, it’s “loosely” based on the life of Marilyn Monroe.

Saturday 19

“Lost Dunks Presented by Geico” (TNT 5 p.m.) TNT spends the entire day high-fiving itself over landing some broadcast rights to the new NBA season. Among the hype-pumping buildup “specials” is this collection of highlights from past slam-dunk contests. Presented by Geico.

“Primeval” (BBC America 6 p.m.) Just when things were getting good, the show runs smack-dab into its season finale.

“Being Human” (BBC America 7 p.m.) Oh, but look, BBC gifts us with a new season of “Being Human” (the original, not the American remake, mind you).

Sunday 20

“Saturday Night Live Backstage” (KOB-4 8 p.m.) Like all the ones that came before it, this sketch/documentary/interview special will probably concentrate mostly on the early years. Because, honestly, who’s interested in the drama of the current Vanessa Bayer / Paul Brittain / Taran Killam / Nasim Pedrad dynasty?

“TLC Special: The Man Who Lost His Face” (TLC 8 p.m.) Did you look under the couch?

Monday 21

Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy (Lifetime 7 p.m.) Hayden Panettiere (“Heroes”) stars as the alleged sex killer, still on trial in Italy. Knox tried to get this cheesy biopic pulled from the air, but when the media has already given you the nickname “Foxy Knoxy,” you’re pretty much doomed to Lifetime Channel movie-of-the-week status.

“It’s Good to be President” (History 7 p.m.) Oh, really?

“American Experience: Jimmy Carter” (KNME-5 9 p.m.) Jimmy Carter might have something to say about that.

Tuesday 22

“Real Housewives of Miami” (Bravo 8 p.m.) A new season, a new city. Eventually, every metropolitan area in America will have to suffer this indignity. Grin and bear it, Miami.

Wednesday 23

“America’s Next Top Model” (KWBQ-19 7 p.m.) Honestly, CW, after 15 seasons, I think the fashion industry can get by OK without your help.

“Shedding for the Wedding” (KWBQ-19 8 p.m.) A reality show about fat people losing weight? Where do you get your brilliant ideas, TV?
