We had over 1,000 entries in our Regal Entertainment Group / Alibi Oscar contest. We asked you to pick the winners in the top 10 Academy Award categories. Out of all those entries, only a tiny handful got them all correct. Some quick tabulation and a random draw or two later, and our winners are as follows. Maia Durrant takes home the grand prize of 24 Regal Cinema movie passes. Joseph Gonzales gets second prize of 16 movie passes. And Phyllis Esterling rounds out the winners, taking home five free movie passes. Wanna make movies? Need a quick, no-nonsense crash course? Kurly Tlapoyawa (filmmaker, stuntman, author, owner of Burning Paradise Video and occasional contributor to Alibi ) is hosting his very first $40 Film School on Sunday, March 6, from 9 a.m. to noon. This hands-on, nuts-and-bolts workshop will have you directing film scenes right away. Tlapoyawa, who co-wrote Direct Your Own Damn Movie! with Troma Films founder Lloyd Kaufman, has tricks and tips galore for low- to no-budget filmmakers, and he’s willing to share. Reel World: Rock The Mock Rock The Mock
It’s getting harder and harder to keep up with the number of local film crews pumping out indie web series. But Albuquerque filmmakers Tantri Wija and Mark Scharen have embraced the tidal wave with their new web series titled, appropriately enough, “Indie: The Series.” The show is a mockumentary about a team of clueless, no-budget indie filmmakers struggling to make art (or something like it). The first two under-10-minute episodes, concerning the making of a very bad punk rock music video, were posted in February.
Reel World: Polish Your Audition Polish Your Audition
Casting director Kathryn Brink will be hosting two advanced audition workshops for actors on Saturday, March 5, and Sunday, March 6. These workshops are suggested for experienced actors over the age of 18 who want to concentrate on film scenes and monologues. Each class runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Far Horizon Studio (304 Washington SE). Cost is $85. Brink is responsible for casting extras and feature roles for some of the bigger films shot here in New Mexico ( Wild Hogs, The Longest Yard, MacGruber ).
