An exhibit opening this weekend at the National Hispanic Cultural Center showcases 39 large-scale, highly detailed paintings by the renowned Mexican artist Alfredo Arreguín. His paintings pay tribute to people like revolutionary Emiliano Zapata, artist Frida Kahlo, labor leader César Chávez, and literary figures Raymond Carver and Tess Gallagher. His work is also deeply inspired by landscapes in Arreguin's native Mexico as well as his adopted home in the Pacific Northwest where he has lived for the past several decades. The exhibit opens this Friday with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. It runs through Sept. 28. 246-2261.
