Norman Akers, a professor of art at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, delves deep into Native American mythology and culture in creating his stunning paintings and prints. An exhibit of his work is currently on display at the University Hospital Art Gallery. Sure, it's kind of a weird venue, but sick people need love too. Stop by sometime between now and April 30. Aker's work is definitely worth a look. Call 272-9700 or 272-6326 for more information.

A Model Community The Walls Gallery

In our current terror-based culture, more and more people are finding the idea of moving into a gated community appealing. In a new exhibit at the Walls Gallery, Chad Person incorporates 3D photo models, video and sound into an extraordinary replica of just such a community. This Friday, March 12, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Person will present a panel discussion with various UNM faculty members on the societal impacts of this peculiar phenomenon. If you can't make it that night, the installation will be on display through March 28. 489-2644.
