Deadline Doom—This Thursday, April 15, is the deadline for submitting your short film or video to the Southwest Film Center's First Annual Student Film Festival. All high school and college students from New Mexico are invited to participate. Organizers are looking for films in four categories: Narrative, Music Video, Experimental and Documentary. The films will be shown in a free public film festival, April 29-May 1 at the University of New Mexico's Southwest Film Center. Hot Topic: Haiti—A film, speaker and discussion will all center around the topic of Haiti on Thursday, April 15, at the Albuquerque Peace and Justice Center. Beverly Bell, executive director of the Center for Economic Justice will speak about her 20 years of experience working on Hatian issues. Two short films, Haiti: Renewal in Diversity and Haiti: Killing the Dream will be screened and a discussion will follow. This special event is free and open to the public and begins at 7 p.m.

Supercalifragilistic—ah, whatever—On Saturday, April 17, at 10 a.m., the Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe will show off its next Big Screen Classic. The 1964 Disney classic Mary Poppins starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke will be screened free of charge as part of the Lensic's Third Anniversary celebration. Seating is limited, so gather the family, show up early and grab a spot. The Lensic is located at 211 West San Francisco Street.

Free Flick Wednesday—Weekly Alibi and New Line Cinema have teamed up to bring a sneak preview of the new romantic comedy The Laws of Attraction to town. The film stars Julianne Moore and Pierce Brosnan as a pair of lawyers who fall in love while arguing different sides of a divorce settlement in picturesque Ireland. The screening will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, at Madstone Theaters (6311 San Mateo NE). Alibi film editor and man about town, Devin D. O'Leary will be on hand to act as genial host. Tickets are available at Play It Again Sports beginning at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 16.
