This year the tiny community of Mountainair, located at the southern end of the Monzano Mountains, will celebrate its 100th birthday. Herrman's little book looks like the kind of folksy, charming history you might find in a ramshackle roadside museum in any number of New Mexican backwaters. New Mexico history buffs might want to get their hands on it since it digs into the Native American, Spanish and Anglo history of Mountainair and the surrounding region. If you want a copy, though, you'll have to send a check for $19 to Mountainair Public Schools, P.O. Box 456, Mountainair, NM 87036 or pick one up for $16.95 at the centennial celebration planned for this summer in Mountainair. The festivities will kick off on the Fourth of July and will include all kinds of music, historical reenactments and other entertainments. For details, log onto www.mountainairchamber.com.
