Sayles is currently embarking on a promotional tour/political rally called the Silver City Express. The tour takes place in parts of Colorado and New Mexico and hopes to educate folks on some of the themes the film touches on, such as corruption, the electoral system, political advertising, journalism and environmental, immigration and labor policies. On Tuesday, Sept. 7, there will be a book signing in Albuquerque, and on Wednesday, Sept. 8, there will be a gala premiere of Silver City at the historic Lensic Theater in Santa Fe
On Tuesday night, beginning at 6 p.m., Sayles will be at Bookworks (4022 Rio Grande NW) in Albuquerque to sign copies of his new book Silver City & Other Screenplays. Sayles and his longtime producer/life-partner Maggie Renzi will speak about the film and sign books afterward. You can call Bookworks at 344-8139 for more information.
Sayles' Silver City Express stops in Santa Fe the next night for the star-studded Wednesday night film premiere. Beginning at 6 p.m., The Lensic and Nation Books will present an autograph session with John Sayles and political cartoonist Tom Tomorrow (“This Modern World”). At 7 p.m., there will be big-screen visuals courtesy of Tom Tomorrow and live music by Steve Earl and special guest star Kris Kristofferson. Silver City stars Chris Cooper and Mary Kay Place are also expected to attend the gala premiere that follows. Basic tickets are $20-$50 and can be purchased by calling the Lensic box office at (505) 988-1234. The Lensic is located at 211 West San Francisco Street.
There are also special $200 premiere tickets available, which include a special luncheon, prestige seating and a backstage party/tribute for producer Maggie Renzi.
