Gay Film Fundraiser—The Southwest Gay & Lesbian Film Festival will be hosting a fundraising party this Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Graze by Jennifer James in Nob Hill. Tickets are $20 or $10 for Closet Cinema 2004 members and volunteers. There will be great Graze food, prizes and lots of local film lovers to rub elbows with. Campaign Cinema—The Big Screen Classics series at The Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe returns this weekend with a timely film. The 1964 political thriller The Best Man starring Henry Fonda and Cliff Robertson will screen on Friday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. This engrossing film examines the various political types jockeying for position and the all-important endorsement at their party's presidential convention. Little Egypt—On Saturday, Oct. 23, the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE) will be presenting a film/lecture series at UNM's Hibben Center (adjacent to the Maxwell Museum). Beginning at 10:30 a.m., Dr. Gareth Bawden, director of the Maxwell Museum, will deliver a lecture on pharaonic Egypt follwed by a screening of the documentary The Great Pharaohs of Egypt, Parts I-II. Mae Araujo, head of the ARCE New Mexico Interest Group, will be available to answer questions about bringing Egyptology to New Mexico. The Right Stuff—The Albuquerque-based Media Rights Foundation will be hosting a free seminar on “Copyright Basics for Artists & Filmmakers.” The seminar will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 26, from 6-9 p.m. at the Community Access Cable Channel 27 studios. The studios are located in downtown Albuquerque right on Civic Plaza. Local attorney Willow Parks will give an overview of copyright law, copyright registration and licensing issues commonly faced by artists, writers and filmmakers. In addition, Albuquerque-based filmmaker Scott Phillips (The Stink of Flesh) will talk about his experiences in making and distributing low-budget independent film. Seating is limited to 75 people.
