Rio Rancho Premiere Cinema is having an “open house movie event” on Thursday, June 9. The brand new, all-digital, 14-screen multiplex is at the corner of Southern and Unser Boulevards. Viewers are invited through the doors on Thursday for an all-day “sneak preview” featuring all the Oscar-nominated Best Pictures of 2010. In case you forgot, that’s The King’s Speech, Black Swan, Toy Story 3, The Fighter, Inception, The Social Network, 127 Hours and Winter’s Bone . Best part: The movies are all free, starting at 11:30 a.m. The theater will open for its first full day of business on Friday, June 10.

Reel World: Cine En Español Cine En Español

Instituto Cervantes, in partnership with the Mexican Consulate and the National Hispanic Cultural Center, is presenting the third annual Mexican Cinema film series. This monthlong collection of contemporary cinema takes place every Thursday night in June. Head to the Bank of America Theatre at NHCC this Thursday, June 9, at 7 p.m. for the 2008 Mexican film Espiral (Spiral) . The film tells the dramatic and romantic story of a man who returns to his home village after spending three years in America earning his fortune, only to find the love of his life is now pregnant by another man. The screening is free and the film is presented in Spanish with English subtitles. Other films will being screened later this month on June 16, 23 and 30.

Reel World: The Return Of The Ring The Return Of The Ring

Big Lord of the Rings fan are you? Well, for three consecutive Tuesday nights in June, Fathom Events is sponsoring theatrical screenings of The Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Trilogy. It starts off on June 14, 7 p.m., with The Fellowship of the Ring . June 21 brings The Two Towers and June 28 closes it out with The Return of the King . The films begin with introductions by director Peter Jackson from the set of his current film, The Hobbit . The films are described as having “nearly three hours of additional feature footage carefully selected by Peter Jackson.” The trilogy will be screened locally at Rio 24 and Cottonwood 16.

Wednesday, June 15, is the deadline to submit your work to the White Sands International Film Festival (taking place Aug. 25 through 28). Awards will be presented in the following categories: Audience Choice, Best Documentary, Best Director, Best Short, Best Student Film, Grand Jury Prize and Lifetime Achievement Award.
