This weekend you can get a jump on holiday shopping simply by taking the 25-mile drive northward up to Placitas. Artists and art lovers of all stripes will be infesting this little burg during the 23rd Annual Placitas Holiday Fine Arts and Crafts Sale.

The festival might not be the biggest of the season, but size doesn't always matter. With 70 booths sprinkled across three different venues, the intimate annual sale is always plenty big enough to present a strikingly wide variety of fine arts and crafts.

The three sites hosting the event are the Placitas Elementary School, the big tent beside the Presbyterian Church and the Anasazi Fields Winery, which will be offering free tastings. Just head on up and follow the colorful signs and banners.

The festival will once again sponsor a raffle of donated art to benefit arts programs at the Placitas Elementary School. Tickets are $1. The Placitas Holiday Sale takes place Saturday, Nov. 20, and Sunday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For details, call 867-2450 or log on to www.placitasholidaysale.com.
