Last weekend dozens of film crews raced around Albuquerque attempting to write, shoot and edit dozens of digital shorts in only two days. This was not some form of mass hysteria. Instead it was just another installment of the annual 48 Hour Film Project. If you want to see what sort of variations on a theme these talented local teams were able to come up with, you can head over to Go Fast, Go Wild: 2013 48 Hour Film Project at KiMo Theatre. On Thursday, July 18, and Friday, July 19, KiMo will feature each and every film (56 in total!) shot during this year’s moviemaking marathon. There will be two screenings on Thursday (6 and 8 p.m.) and two on Friday (6 and 8 p.m.). Upwards of 15 different films will be shown at each screening. Admission to the individual screenings will run you $10, but you can get into all four of them for a mere $32. For a complete rundown of the teams and when their films will be showing, go to 48hourfilm.com/en/albuquerque. Tickets are available now at kimotickets.com.

The makers of the paranormal documentary A Blood Red Sky are in the midst of a 23-city North American screening/lecture tour. They’ll be stopping by Albuquerque’s Guild Cinema on Tuesday, July 23, to scare up interest in their work. The film is directed by professional ghost hunter Chad Calek (of A&E’s “Paranormal State” and “The Ghost Prophecies”). It chronicles Calek’s “extremely dangerous experiment” involving global consciousness (and, one would presume, lots of ghosts) conducted in northern England’s notoriously haunted Chillingham Castle. There are multiple levels of tickets you can purchase through EventBrite—from the basic $15 film ticket to the $150 VIP Pass (which nets you a private meet-and-greet with the cast and crew, select seating at the event, autographed photos, a one-hour paranormal evidence presentation, a post-film Q&A, a “Ghost Story” post-event party aboard the A Blood Red Sky tour bus and a whole bunch more). To reserve one of these frighteningly limited tickets, got to abrstour.eventbrite.com.

Black Journey, a “faith-based thriller” is shooting in New Mexico and looking for both actors and background extras. These are unpaid positions. Acting experience is preferred but not necessary. Filming will take place this summer around Albuquerque and Grants. According to the producers, “The film is a Christian film project and we ask that all volunteers are Christian.” So take a hike, Buddhists. If you’re interested (and Christian), please send a current picture, bio and contact information to black_journey_film_2012@yahoo.com. If you want more info on the project, head to blackjourneyfilm.com.
