Over at Bookworks, hippie turned intellectual property attorney Roberta Price will present a slide show to promote her fascinating new book, Huerfano, on Thursday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. The book is a first-person account of Price's six-year stay on a commune in Southern Colorado during the '70s. Price prides herself on providing a relatively sympathetic account of the idealistic utopian lifestyle of hippie communistas. The book was selected by ForeWord Magazine as one of the top 10 university press books of the year.
A few days later, on Sunday, Dec. 5, at 3 p.m., Rudolfo Anaya will make an appearance at Bookworks to read from his new bilingual Christmas picture book, The Santero's Miracle. Bring the kids. Hot cider will be provided.
Over at Page One, Aimée and David Thurlo will show up on Thursday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. to discuss and sign two of their latest mystery novels. The first, Thief in Retreat, follows the continuing adventures of a motorcycle-riding nun named Sister Agatha. The second book, Blood Retribution, is a new installment in the Thurlos' other series, which stars Lee Nez, a New Mexico state policeman who also happens to be half-vampire.
Over at Borders (Northtowne Plaza, 5901 Wyoming, 797-5681), the popular belly-dancing troupe Los Gitanos will be shaking their thing on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. Also at Borders, don't miss the Watermelon Mountain Jug Band's down-home hillbilly Christmas show on Sunday, Dec. 19, at 3 p.m.
