Regal Cinemas has finally broken ground on the new Winrock Stadium 16 IMAX & RPX. After a four-day sneak preview featuring older films, reduced admissions and a generous donation to charity, the theater will be officially opening to the public this Friday, Nov. 15. The multiplex will feature New Mexico’s first IMAX format screen and something called RPX or “Regal Premium Experience.” Regal bills RPX as “a custom-built premium environment featuring elegant and luxurious seats with high-back headrests, a giant immersive screen illuminated by high-quality digital projectors and completed with a state-of-the-art sound system.” Both IMAX and RPX screens will come with an additional fee. The Winrock Stadium is located on the Southeast side of the Winrock Mall.

The Gallup Film Festival was scheduled to take place Sept. 13 through 15 at the El Morro Theatre in Gallup, N.M. But a week before it was set to start, it was postponed due to “current issues being resolved internally with the city.” Not sure what that means, exactly, but it looks like the festival is back up and running. It’s scheduled to take place now Nov. 15 through 17 at the Downtown Conference Center in Gallup. Bronson Pelletier and Kiowa Gordon, the “Wolf Pack” from the Twilight Saga films will be making a special appearance. Friday will feature documentary premieres and panel discussions. Saturday is reserved for drama, animation, more panel discussions and a special screening of the Navajo language cut of Star Wars: Episode IV—A New Hope. Sunday closes out with short films, live music and the awards ceremony. Tickets are $25 for a day pass, $65 for a full weekend pass and $95 for a VIP all-access pass. Go to gallupfilmfestival.com to purchase tickets and to check out a complete schedule of events.
