Reel World: Bug Out Bug Out

Albuquerque’s Open Space Alliance is hosting a “Celebrate the Pollinators” film series this summer. Screenings run every Saturday in the Open Space Visitor Center’s Media Room from 1:30 to 3:30pm. Admission is free. This Saturday, June 14, catch the animated family film The Ant Bully. On June 21 it’s the 2008 drama The Secret Life of Bees (which is really more of a coming-of-age tale set in the Civil Rights-era South—but it does have bees in it). On June 28 it’s the stop-motion-animated adaptation of Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach. That’s got lots of bugs in it. The Open Space Visitor Center is located a 6500 Coors NW.

Reel World: Who Wants Tennant? Who Wants Tennant?

David Tennant is no longer on the BBC’s “Doctor Who.” The 10th Doctor quit back in 2010. His second replacement (Peter Capaldi) shows up this August. And yet, for a lot of people, Tennant is their Doctor. Next week BBC and Fathom Events are catering to Tennant fetishists with a special two-night event. On Monday, June 16, theaters nationwide will screen the two-part “Doctor Who” episode “Rise of the Cybermen/The Age of Steel.” This special event will include an exclusive interview with Tennant reflecting on his time as the Doctor. Then, on Tuesday, June 17, return to the theater to hear Tennant narrate the BBC nature documentary Wings 3D. Screenings begin at 7:30pm, both nights at the Rio 24, Downtown 14, Winrock and Cottonwood 16. One ticket gets you into both events. Passes are on sale now at fathomevents.com.
