Thursday 7“Extreme Guide to Parenting” (Bravo 8:30pm) Unusual parents (earthy hippies, two gay dads, “helicopter” parents, anti-vaccine proponents, adults who think their kids are “indigo children”) are profiled in this docu-reality series.“Garfunkel and Oates” (IFC 8pm) Music-minded comediennes Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci star in this “Flight of the Conchords”-meets-“Portlandia” sitcom laced with cute/naughty, twee-folk ditties.“Black Jesus” (Cartoon Network 12am) From the creator of “The Boondocks” comes this … I’m gonna say “controversial,” live-action series about Jesus returning to inner-city Compton.“7 Deadly Sins” (Showtime 9pm) Oscar-nominated filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (already well acquainted with gluttony after 2004’s Super Size Me) sets out to explore the seven deadly sins in this new documentary series.Friday 8“Jonah from Tonga” (HBO 8pm) This gleefully offensive mockumentary about a Polynesian high-schooler sent to live with relatives in Tonga is the second spin-off from Chris Lilley’s “Summer Heights High” (after “Ja’mie: Private School Girl”). Like the other shows, the main character is played by Lilley.“The Knick” (Cinemax 8pm) Allegedly retired filmmaker Steven Soderbergh (Erin Brockovich, Ocean’s Eleven) directs this bloody medical drama in which Clive Owen (Sin City, Children of Men) stars as a cocaine-addicted doctor at New York’s Knickerbocker Hospital, circa 1900.Saturday 9“Ghost Planes” (H2 7pm) More than 80 aircrafts have gone missing since 1948. That’s … Wait. That’s it? Just 80? That doesn’t seem spooky or odd. I mean, think of the thousands of airplanes that are in the air every single day. Then trace that all the way back to the end of World War II. Just 80? That’s, like, one a year! … Sorry, H2. You were saying?Sunday 10“Air Jaws: Fin of Fury” (Discovery 6pm) Syfy had its fun with Sharknado Week. Comedy Central yukked it up with Shart Week. Now it’s time for the real, authentic Shark Week. Discovery kicks it off with more flying shark action.Monday 11“Approval Matrix” (Sundance 12am) Host Neal Brennan and a panel of guests discuss “controversial” entertainment news. … OK. but the first time somebody uses the word “Kardashian,” I’m outta there.Tuesday 12“4th and Loud” (AMC 7pm) So, um, apparently Gene Simmons owns an arena football league called the LA KISS. This docu-reality drama traces the team’s inaugural season. “Cement Heads” (A&E 8:30pm) A docu-reality show about a family-owned cement business? Damn. I defy you to come up with a job so boring cable TV won’t make a show out of it.Wednesday 13“Legends” (TNT 7pm) Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings trilogy, “Game of Thrones”) is a “deep cover” FBI agent and master of disguise who tries to reconnect with his job and family after infiltrating a domestic terrorist organization. This action/spy series is based on the award-winning book by Robert Littell and comes from the producers of “Homeland.”“Wilfred” (FXX 8pm) FXX’s bad taste-loving sitcom about a man and his talking dog (based on the Australian series of the same name) comes to an end after four seasons.
