The folks that brought you New Mexico Books and More—a temporary Cottonwood Mall coop that sold local books during last year's holiday season—are planning a giant book fair at the mall on Saturday, May 7. The event will occur from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the day before Mother's Day, traditionally a packed shopping day at the mall.

The temporary book coop was so successful in promoting and selling New Mexico books that the organizers wanted to create another event with a similar purpose. Local authors and publishers who sign up before March 1 can get a booth for $55 per table. After that date, the rate rises to $70 per table. There's enough space for approximately 120 booths, and the organizers already have reservations for over three dozen booths. Over 500 people are on a waiting list to get information about the fair. So what am I trying to tell you? It's really quite simple: Don't dawdle!

For more information about this book fair, call Paul Rhetts or Barbe Awalt at 344-9382 or e-mail them at info@nmbookcoop.com. Happy booking.

Precision Poetry Drill Team readings have been described as synchronized swimming with words. This group of talented teen poets will present multi-voiced versions of several classic poems at a reading on Friday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. at the Blue Dragon Coffeehouse (1517 Girard NE). The group's new CD will be for sale at the event, so come on by, listen to some creative spoken verse, and fork out a couple bucks so these kids can raise enough funds to make it out to the Youth National Poetry Slam in San Francisco this April. 268-5159.
