Oscars Night—Alibi and Louie's Rock-N-Reels are proudly sponsoring the 13th Annual Acadamy Awards Benefit at the historic Lobo Theater in Nob Hill this Sunday beginning at 5 p.m. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness of and funds for P.A.W.S. (Pets Are Wonderful Support), a New Mexico AIDS Service program that provides supplemental pet food and veterinary care for companion animals of seriously ill people. Tickets are $20 for the event only ($5 off with student ID) or $50 for the event plus a three-course prix-fixé dinner at Zinc Bistro. The Oscars will be projected onto the Lobo's giant screen and there will be tons of movie-related doorprizes to be won. In addition, a silent auction in the theater's lobby will give attendees a chance to bid on items donated by local merchants. For dinner reservations and event info, call 232-7510.

Oscars North—If you live north of Albuquerque, you are invited to don your finest duds and head to the College of Santa Fe's 14th Annual Academy Awards Gala Dinner and Auction. The festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Rosemarie Shellaberger Tennis Center. This year's mistress of ceremonies is actress Juanita Sena-Shannon, a Santa Fe native who has appeared in many Sante Fe Playhouse productions. Numerous auction items, ranging from vacations to airline tickets to jewelry, will be available for bid. The gourmet dinner is catered by Bon Appétit and features appetizers, deserts and a main course of red-chile-rubbed salmon and prime rib. Tickets are $125 per person and can be obtained by calling the College of Santa Fe reservation line at (505) 473-6244. Proceeds from this Gala Dinner and Auction benefit SFC student scholarships.

Oscars North II—The Santa Fe Film Festival is holding its own Oscar bash beginning at 5 p.m. at the Hilton Hotel (100 Sandoval Street) in Santa Fe. The event will be emceed by Santa Fe Reporter columnist Duncan North, screenwriter of the romantic comedy The Tao of Steve. The Academy Awards will be telecast on two large screens. Guests will be greeted with a glamorous red-carpet welcome. Drinks will be served at a cash bar and food will be dished up buffet-style. Tickets are $45 at the door or $40 in advance by calling (505) 988-5225.

Same-Sex Cinema—On Saturday, Feb. 26, Crone Productions will sponsor a “Celebration of Love” in honor of the one-year anniversary of same-sex marriage in New Mexico. The celebration will take place at noon at the Guild Cinema in Nob Hill and will spotight the San Fransicsco-lensed documentary Freedom to Marry as well as a short make by two ENMU students titled “Gay Marriage: Perspectives of a Community.” Tickets are available at the Guild box office.
