How VetcoNM.com Became Albuquerque’s Favorite Pet Care Provider

Whether you are a dog lover, parrot owner, have a child who adores their pet hamster or describe yourself as a ‘cat person’—the one thing we all have in common is a love of the wonderful joy and companionship that a pet can bring to any household as a new member of your family. However—to paraphrase a famous quote from your friendly neighborhood Spider Man—with great joy comes great responsibility! That’s why so many Albuquerque veterinary patients have been thrilled to find
www.VetcoNM.com online or to visit their two clinic locations when seeking a professional veterinarian with the medical skills and empathy to treat you and your pet’s needs with all the care your family deserves. We sat down with the Cindy, the owner of Vetco to find out what has made them the favorite clinic of Albuquerque pets and their guardians.

How long has Vetco been part of the Albuquerque community?

“I’m very proud to say that Vetco is in our 29th year of serving the Albuquerque community,” said Cindy, owner of Albuquerque Vetco. “What I’m even happier about is the way our longevity and continuity in the community has allowed us to become part of the life-cycle of so many pets and their families. Being here with our doors open six days a week for nearly three full decades gives us a different perspective than large corporate animal clinics. We get to meet pets as puppies and kittens and work with them from the first day they open their eyes until their last. There is a great sense of satisfaction we gain from knowing a dog, bird, cat or other pet has lived the full potential of its life and been a healthy, active part of its family due to the kind of consistent care we provide throughout their life.”

We’ve been told your pricing is lower than elsewhere. Why is that?

“We probably should charge more according to some of our competitors, but the fact is, we are here because we love animals and want to help serve the greater good,” said Cindy. “I’m not sure how anyone would be able to sleep at night if they made caring for a pet too pricey for people, just because of some fictional profit margin a corporate office five states a way is dictating to their franchises. That’s just not how we do things. We’re here to help, and when you are already stressed about the discomfort or illness your pet is facing, the last thing you want is some nameless faceless vet gouging you with the bill. Our community of pet lovers know we can’t be giving things away for free or we would have to close our doors, but they also are aware that we put fairness ahead of everything else when it comes to setting our prices.”

What kinds of services does Vetco offer for pets?

“A lot of the most important services we offer are also the least colorful. Being the best local Albuquerque veterinarian isn’t about showing up in newspaper headlines—it’s about providing safe vaccinations, reliable spaying and neutering, effective surgeries, secure microchips, routine dental cleanings, accurate heartworm testing, persistent flea and tick treatment, official pet licenses and the like. You can see a full list of our services on our website any time by visiting
www.vetconm.com/pet-health/services/ and if you do need something you don’t see listed, call us any time at (505) 292-3030 to discuss it confidentially. We’re here to help.”

You mentioned the greater good. Are there other ways Vetco pursues those goals?

“Yes, definitely. From our point of view, it’s not enough for a local business to do what it does well—if we want Albuquerque to continue to be the vibrant and friendly place we all enjoy, it’s important for people to roll up their sleeves and get involved in local causes or events. For Vetco, that starts with our non-profit and animal rescue work with charitable organizations like the Street Cat Hub. It also extends to include activities like our annual photos with Santa for pets and their families. We feel we can do the most good by helping to teach children in Albuquerque a love for animals and the New Mexico pet community along with us. Often it’s as simple as a photo of them and their pup sitting on Santa’s lap or a chance to talk with a veterinarian who takes their questions seriously and shares their enthusiasm for helping their cat get well soon.”

Open Monday through Friday each week from 8:00am to 5:30pm, and on Saturdays from 8:00am to 4:00pm, it’s easy to see what makes Vetco such a special place for pets and their families. Schedule an appointment or come to one of the daily walk-in shot clinics from 2:30pm to 5:30pm Monday through Friday and 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Saturdays. Whether you visit their Albuquerque location on 8200 Menaul or their satellite clinic in Valencia/Los Lunas at 2510 Main Street it’s obvious that everything Vetco does is aimed at making New Mexico, its animal and human population, as healthy and fun to live with as possible.
