About UsThe Greater Albuquerque Association of REALTORS® (GAAR) represents the local Realtors that work together to raise the standards of the real estate profession, advocate for the homeowner and help build stronger communities. Chartered in 1921, GAAR is now the largest local professional trade association in Central New Mexico. It has over 3,000 members and serves Bernalillo, Valencia, Sandoval, Torrance, and parts of Socorro and Santa Fe Counties.Recognized as the region’s voice of real estate, GAAR also houses the Southwest MLS and is dedicated to providing the most reliable and credible database of real estate listings. The REALTOR® difference—over 100 years in the making. Not all real estate licensees are Realtors. The 100-year-old term REALTOR® is a registered, collective membership mark that identifies your real estate professional as a member of the National Association of Realtors who subscribes to a strict Code of Ethics. The Code of Ethics outlines specific ethical duties that a Realtor has to the client, the public and their fellow Realtors. In addition to enforcing the Code of Ethics, GAAR’s Professional Standards office also offers its members and their clients inexpensive dispute resolution services. Impact on the communityBeing a Realtor is about more than just real estate transactions. Over the past 95 years, Realtors have had an integral role in the development of the Greater Albuquerque area. Through their dedicated efforts and involvement, Realtors have positively influenced the shaping of our neighborhoods and communities. Here are just a few ways they help the community:The REALTOR® Fund: To demonstrate their ongoing pledge to honor their responsibilities to the community and to express gratitude for a successful real estate industry, our members established the REALTOR® Fund of the Greater Albuquerque Association of REALTORS®. This fund is a sustainable endowment that gifts over $50,000 each year to local charities like APS Title 1, NM Kids Matter, Boys and Girls Club of NM and more. Once the sustainable fund reaches $1 million in the next few years, GAAR will double charitable giving to community non-profits. Run for the Zoo: For more than 20 years, GAAR’s Realtor and affiliate members have loyally served as the volunteers that keep the Run for the Zoo participants safe and motivated along the route.Angel Tree: Each year, GAAR members adopt “angels”—APS Title 1 Students —during the holiday season. This year members adopted more than 500 “angels” by throwing holiday parties, donating gift cards and gifting clothing, toys and books to children in need.Make a Difference Day: For the past few years, Realtor and affiliate members team up to make a difference in the community. In 2015, they volunteered at Roadrunner Food Bank to help them serve 70,000 people each week.GAAR Good Neighbor Awards: Good Neighbors are Realtor and Affiliate members that dedicate themselves to volunteer service. They donate gifts, money, and—most importantly—a lot of time to their charity. The program encourages more Realtors to join charities that improve the livability of our local community.
