This Thursday, May 18, is “3rd Thursday,” meaning admission to the Albuquerque Museum is free. As part of the Museum’s ongoing Hollywood Southwest: New Mexico in Film & Television exhibit, this Thursday has been dubbed “Indie Film Night.” The evening runs from 5 to 8:30pm. Starting at 5:30pm, local artists Jon Sanchez and Jeremy Montoya will lead a hands-on art activity for kids and adults, allowing them to screenprint their own movie poster. Local musical group JeeZ LaWeeZ will perform from 5:30 to 8pm. Starting at 7pm a group of New Mexican filmmakers will show off a selection of their short films. Among the participants are Travis Armstrong, Shawn Darling, Alejandra Castro, Lia Gotz, Bryan Konefsky and Steven Maes. Dirk Norris, executive director of the New Mexico Film Foundation, will moderate a post-screening Q&A with the filmmakers. Other filmmakers will be on hand vending DVDs of locally made independent features. The Albuquerque Museum is located at 2000 Mountain NW.

Do you love movies? Do you love baby goats? Boy, do we have the event for you. The Old Windmill Dairy in Estancia is hosting the first of several “Baby Goat Cuddling and a Movie Under the Stars” events this Saturday, May 20, starting at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children. Refreshments including hot dogs, popcorn, macaroni and cheese, ice tea, and lemonade are included as part of your ticket. S’mores are available for an additional fee. Guests are invited to “bring blankets, lounge chairs or something comfortable to sit on while you cuddle with a baby goat and enjoy a movie.” The movie will start about 30 minutes before sunset. The Old Windmill has not announced the actual title of the film they’ll be screening, but we’ll assume it’s baby goat (and human family) friendly. This event is subject to weather and does take place on a rural farm, so be prepared to dress appropriately. Reel World: Show Off For Showcase Show Off For Showcase
The New Mexico Film Office is accepting entries for the 2017 NM Filmmakers Showcase. This annual event features a range of creative talents from New Mexicans around the state. A panel of local film professionals will judge the films in various categories, and winning films will be sent around the state for screenings organized by the Film Office in collaboration with local theaters and state film festivals. There are seven categories for submission: drama, horror, sci-fi/fantasy, comedy, documentary, student and music video. The maximum run time for entries is 120 minutes. There is no charge to submit an entry, but you only have until this Sunday, May 21, at 5pm to submit your work.
