Women’s Balcony
The fourth annual Albuquerque Jewish Film Festival runs Thursday, July 20, through Tuesday, July 25. It’s set to showcase five acclaimed, recently released films from the US, Israel and Italy. The Women’s Balcony screens Thursday at 7pm at high Ridge Theater (12921 Indian School NE). It’s a comedy-drama about a group of women who try to reform their synagogue after a fundamentalist rabbi takes over. It was Israel’s no. 1 movie of 2016. Body & Soul: An American Bridge is a documentary detailing how jazz connects African-Americans and American Jews. It screens Saturday at 7:30pm at the Jewish Community Center (5520 Wyoming NE). Welcome to Kutcher’s is a historical look back at one of the legendary Borscht Belt hotels and shows at the JCC on Sunday at 2pm. Let Yourself Go! will show at High Ridge on Monday at 7pm. This quirky Italian comedy tells the story of a middle-aged Jewish psychoanalyst who lives next door to his ex-wife—and is awakened from his unhealthy lifestyle by an offbeat personal trainer. The fest closes out with Carvalho’s Journey, a biographical documentary about 19th century Jewish atist/pioneer Solomon Nunes Carvalho. Catch it at the JCC Tuesday at 7pm. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door for each film. The Body & Soul screening includes a jazz concert, wine and snacks, and will cost $20 in advance ($25 at the door).
