The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science is getting romantic on Thursday, July 27, with a screening of James Cameron’s blockbuster 1997 film Titanic. Watch Jack freeze to death and Rose get old on the big screen inside the museum’s DynaTheater. Tickets for this “Margarita and a Movie” event are $18 and include a Margarita plus chips and salsa. More Margaritas and beer are available for purchase, courtesy of sponsor Texas Roadhouse. Designated driver tickets can be had for $15 and include two nonalcoholic beverages plus chips and salsa. Reel World: Zootopia In The Park Zootopia In The Park
Bernalillo County’s Movies in the Park series heads to Mariposa Basin Park (4900 Kachina NW) for a screening of the Disney animated film Zootopia this Saturday, July 29. The film teams up a determined bunny cop (Ginnifer Goodwin) with a fast-talking con man of a fox (Jason Batemen) to expose a mysterious conspiracy in an anthropomorphic animal metropolis. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the free family movie. The show begins at dusk (around 8:15pm). Food vendors are on site, but you’re welcome to bring your own picnic. (No glass bottles or alcohol, of course.)

Attention local filmmakers: If you want to be a part of the 2017 New Mexico Filmmakers Showcase, you have until the extended deadline of Monday, July 31, to submit your work. This free filmmakers showcase is open to all New Mexico residents. The showcase itself will take place in September—at a time and location to be determined. Short or feature-length works are being accepted. A panel of local film professionals will judge the films in various categories. Winning films will be sent around the state in a special traveling showcase, in collaboration with local theaters and film festivals. This year, there are seven categories for submission: drama, horror, sci-fi/fantasy, comedy, documentary, student and music video. The maximum run time for entries is 120 minutes. Reel World: Aliens From Spain Aliens From Spain
Spanish filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo recently wrote and directed the brilliantly odd sci-fi dramedy Colossal with Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis. Before that, he debuted with the innovative, no-budget, 2007 sci-fi film Timecrimes and followed up with the 2011 Spanish-language alien invasion flick Extraterrestre. This Thursday, July 27, starting at 7pm, the Bank of America Theatre inside the National Hispanic Cultural Center (1701 Fourth SW) will screen Extraterrestre as part of its Free Thursday Film Series. The film will be shown in Spanish with English subtitles. Admission is free, of course, but tickets need to be picked up at the theater’s box office starting one hour before showtime.
