Join Albuquerque poet laureate Michelle Otero for another installation of the recurring event “Walking with Poets,” in the bosque this Thursday, Oct. 25, from 6 to 8pm. The free event guides visitors on a walk along the river and amid the trees, allowing time for discussion, reflection and writing. The event raises awareness around the unique ecosystem that we are lucky to live in, and honors the work of beloved poets that are well-established in the canon, along with our cadre of local talent. The event takes place on the fourth Thursday of the month until it gives to cold—meaning, this might be your last chance for a guided literary walk on the Rio Grande for awhile. Poets head out from the northwest corner of the National Hispanic Cultural Center (1701 Fourth Street SW) parking lot.
Found Objects Rise And Shine
How often are we honest? What does it even mean to be honest with ourselves and with others? Honesty, “the currency for connection,” is the theme of this month’s CreativeMornings, ABQ chapter. This month, we are led by Ebony Isis Booth, poet and writer extraordinaire, founder of Burque Noir and Honeysuckle Creatives consultancy, and artist of many stripes. Booth’s recent collection of poetry, Grinning & Bare, is proof positive that she has great wisdom to share on this topic. CreativeMornings is an international breakfast lecture series that is locally hosted at Richard Levy Gallery (514 Central Ave. SW) from 8:30 to 10am on Friday, Oct. 26. Midnight Blues is the latest title from Tony Hillerman Award-winner Robert D. Kidera. The mystery writer, academic and long-time member of the film industry began penning his novels in 2010. Since then, his work has received many accolades. Midnight Blues is his fourth novel, and it’s a rollercoaster that comes down to a showdown in a New Mexico ghost town. Pick up a copy and meet the author on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 3pm at Heights literary hub Page 1 Bookstore (5850 Eubank Blvd. NE, Ste. B-41).

The Magazine, the eminent monthly arts publication produced in Santa Fe, heads south on Tuesday, Oct. 30 for a launch party for November’s issue. The upcoming issue takes a look at public art in New Mexico and across the region. Talk art, space and big ideas with The editors, writers and a host of artists.
