The ahead-of-her-time heiress moved from Greenwich Village (where she palled around with Gertrude Stein and Pablo Picasso) to Taos, N.M., in 1917. There, she fell in love with and married full-blooded Tiwa Indian Antonio Luhan. She went on to befriend artists such as Georgia O’Keefe, Ansel Adams and D.H. Lawrence.
