Oil for Film—The Peace & Justice Center (202 Harvard SE) is sponsoring a special film/lecture this Thursday, June 23. From the producers of Hidden Wars of Desert Storm and Plan Colombia comes the documentary The Oil Factor: Behind the War on Terror. This film examines the not-so-subtle link between oil interests and current U.S. military interventions. The film was shot over a four-month period in Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Producers Gerard Ungermann and Audrey Brohy–both of whom recently returned from the Middle East–will be there to discuss the film and its surrounding issues. Everything gets underway at 7 p.m. and seating is limited.

Marilyn in New Mexico—I'm not quite sure why, but the Old Pass Gallery in Raton, NM, is opening an exhibit of never-before-seen Marilyn Monroe photos by renowned photographer William Carroll. The exhibit, sponsored by the Raton Arts and Humanities Council and the Raton Chamber & Economic Development Council, will run through July. An opening night reception, with the photog himself on hand for a meet-and-greet, will be held on Tuesday, June 28. Sounds like a fine excuse for a road trip. Dog Day Evening—It's hard to believe, but the sixth annual Dogfest Film Festival will have its world premiere on Saturday, June 25, at Veterans Memorial Park in Albuquerque. For the sixth year in a row, short films for, about and by dogs will be screened in a family-friendly outdoor environment. Dog owners are encouraged to bring their canine companions (although leashes are required). Doors open at 7 p.m., films begin at 8 p.m. Veterans Memorial Park is located at 1100 Louisiana SE. Psychedelic Cinema—The Lisa Law Film Festival, in conjunction with the Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe, will present a screening of the director's cut of the seminal music documentary Woodstock on Tuesday, June 28, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Shot during the infamous 1969 rock/folk festival, the film features over 30 performers including such icons as Joan Baez, The Band, The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin and Neil Young. Law, a famed photographer from the era, will have her psychedelic bus Silver on site for tours. There will be prizes, a raffle and a special guest appearance by the “Voice of Woodstock,” announcer/stage manager John Morris. Tickets for the screening are $10 and are available at the Lensic box office (211 West San Francisco).
