Found Objects Unmaking A Racist

Carolyn Meyer is an old white lady. Where she grew up (America), lots of people are racist and so was she. “I grew up in an America post World War II, where racism was as natural as breathing air,” Meyer says. “Everything in my community—my parents, their friends, even my piano teacher—taught me that whites are inherently better than blacks. And those lessons shaped who I was…until they didn’t.” That is the starting point of her new one-women show The Old White Lady Tells It, opening Sunday, Feb. 23 at 4pm at The Cell Theatre (700 First Street NW). A bold premise from a brazen octogenarian, this show promises to be an intimate look at bigotry in our culture and how one old white lady moved past it. Tickets are $20.
