Mystery Movie—Burning Paradise Video is holding a “mystery” fundraiser for the upcoming TromaDance New Mexico Film Festival. It takes place this Friday at 11 p.m., the Guild Cinema. Though I can't spill the beans on the film's title, I can assure you it features Japanese schoolgirls, high-powered weaponry and assloads of action. This film has never been released in America and has yet to make the leap to DVD in this country. It is one of the most talked-about international films in the last 10 years, and you need to see it on the big screen. Tickets are a mere $5. All proceeds go toward TromaDance New Mexico.

Learn to Direct—Red Thunder Entertainment is gearing up for the second of its 12-week professional workshops at the Hispanic Cultural Center. The Film Directing Workshop will take place one Saturday a month for the next year and will take participants through all creative and technical phases of the directing experience. Developing, preparing, packaging and producing projects for each participant will be a focus. Equipment will be provided. The workshop is limited to 24 participants and will cost $200 per month. Psychedelic Cinema—The Lisa Law Film Festival returns to Santa Fe with a one-night-only fundraiser for Santa Fe's Warehouse 21 teen center. On Sunday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 p.m., the Film Center at Cinemacafé (1616 St. Michael's) will screen You Are What You Eat, a genuine '60s underground documentary featuring love-ins, hippies and Haight-Ashbury freak-outs. General admission is $10.

Walk-In Movies—This Sunday, Sept. 25, Madrid's historic ballpark will host the Noche Delicious Outdoor Film Festival. Work from emerging experimental video and filmmakers will be screened. Short, medium and long clips by local artists such as Betsy Burke, Anah-K, Elisa Keri, Gretchen Hildebran and others will be among those shown on the ballpark's outdoor screen. Take the short drive to Madrid, bring a blanket and pay what you can. Showings start around 7 p.m.

Film Friends Fundraiser—On Sunday, Sept. 26, Friends of Film, Video and Arts Foundation will screen Why Get Married?, a documentary by NM filmmaker Anne Stirling. Friends of Film helps raise interest and funds for independent filmmakers and artists. The screening starts at noon at the Guild Cinema. Tickets are $15 at the door. All proceeds go to the fledgling organization.
