Submit to the Gorillas—The 2nd Gorilla Tango Film Festival will take place Saturday, March 11, at 8 p.m. The mad programmers down at Gorilla Tango Comedy Theater are looking for films/videos of any length for inclusion in their sophomore public screening. All submissions must be sent on DVD, VHS, SVCD or VCD. There is a $10 nonrefundable submission fee per film. Submission deadline is Thursday, March 9. For Kids, By Kids—Youth Development, Inc., a nonprofit service organization that provides educational, developmental and humanitarian assistance to children, youth and families in New Mexico, recently entered a short film in the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival. “The Day the World Ended” was produced by YDI with the help of a cast and crew of local kids, age 6-18. The short family comedy, centering on a young boy growing up in the Martinez Town barrio of Albuquerque in the '50s, will be screened for the public on Friday, Feb. 17. The screening will take place at 7 p.m. at the Wool Warehouse dinner theater (516 First Street NW). Also screening will be YDI's previous short “A Day at the Ditch,” which picked up awards at New Mexico's 2004 Governor's Cup Film Festival. Ticket prices for this homegrown double feature are $10 for adults and $6 for children. Net proceeds will go to benefit YDI and its Arts in the Community program. Zen and the Art of MoviemakingZen & The Asteroid, a feature-length “Taoist sci-fi comedy” shot in and around Española, received its world premiere at December’s Santa Fe Film Festival. Now the film’s cast and crew are gearing up for a special DVD release screening at the Guild Cinema in Albuquerque on Saturday, Feb. 18. Africa on Film–Watch the film Hotel Rwanda and listen to a lecture by photographer Lucian Niemeyer, who will discuss his experience photographing the war-torn African nation. Niemeyer will also sign copies of his book Africa: The Holocausts of Rwanda and Sudan. The event takes place at UNM's Hibben Center, Room 105, on Saturday, Feb. 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
