Civil Cinema—The Spanish Civil War film series at the National Hispanic Cultural Center fires its opening round salvo on Thursday, March 23, with Julio Medem's 1992 drama Vacas. The film will be presented in Spanish with English subtitles. Screening is free and begins at 7 p.m. in the Wells Fargo Auditorium (1701 Fourth Street NW).

Dance on Film–The Readymade Dance Theater Company will be presenting the second installment of its dance film series this Friday and Saturday, March 24-25, beginning at 8 p.m. both nights. A double-feature of cutting-edge dance shorts from New York's Dance on Camera Festival will be screened. “Amelia” represents the directing debut of Montreal's renowned choreographer Édouard Lock. This award-winning dance film features the energetic dancers of La La La Human Steps and is set in part to the lyrics of Lou Reed. “Varo (Waiting)” is a dark, stylized short from Hungary that takes place entirely within the rhythmic confines of a train station. Tickets are $5 and are available at Readymade Dance Theater (4011 Silver SE) beginning at 7:30 p.m. each night. Seating is limited, so feel free to waltz on in there early.

I Want My MTV–On Saturday, March 25, the New Mexico Music Commission and the New Mexico Film Commission will be joining forces to film the pilot episode of a new television series, “Live at the Golden West.” The “Austin City Limits”-inspired program will serve as a showcase for regional acts and will be recorded at (where else?) the Golden West Saloon. The show begins at 9 p.m. with local acts Taarka and Last to Know. Cover charge is $7.

Get a Job–The TVI Workforce Training Center will offer a film industry training class on film production, sound and video. The class focusses on the responsibilities of production crew sound mixers, boom operators, cable pullers and video-assist operators. At the conclusion of the class, students will have a working knowledge of the job requirements for each of these positions.
