Kaleidospoke is an art exhibition project with many, um, spokes meant to foster awareness and love of cycling. Organizers are pushing bike culture through visual art, talks and a film showcase, all at the Center for Contemporary Arts in Santa Fe (1050 Old Pecos Trail). Kaleidospoke activities happen for nearly two months, July 15 through September 4. The opening gala on Friday boasts murals by multiple artists and a screening of four short films. Partygoers will also enjoy drinks, DJs, live silk-screening, a photo booth, photography and performances. Whoa! The annual Mellow Velo Bicycle Beauty Pageant will make the crowd drool over the prettiest bikes, and anyone may enter their two-wheeled baby. The pageant is judged by the audience and includes categories like fixed, cruiser and best of show. Entry to Kaleidospoke is free throughout the exhibition, except on film nights, which cost $10. As part of the cycle fest CCA will also screen the Tour de France on select days throughout the month. A portion of the proceeds generated by Kaleidospoke will go to Chainbreaker Collective, Santa Fe’s local bicycle cooperative. For schedules and details, see thekaleidospoke.com and ccasantafe.org
