Also at Page One, on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m., the store will be hosting a Bill of Rights Celebration Party in honor of the Albuquerque City Council's recent unanimous passage of a resolution in support of civil liberties. There'll be food, skits, giveaways and music, so come on down and party in the cause of freedom.
Over at Bookworks, on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 3 p.m., you'll have a chance to catch a live broadcast of a conversation between Lee Marmon, author of The Pueblo Imagination and Jake Page, author of In the Hands of the Great Spirit: The 20,000 Year History of American Indians. Ron Chapman will moderate a discussion about Native American history and culture to be broadcast live on KUNM 89.9 FM. A book signing will follow the discussion.
If you've done much hiking in the Gila Wilderness, you've probably noticed the ruins of historic cabins in some of the high alpine meadows. Robert Nelson “Nat” Straw lived a solitary existence as a trapper and hunter in that area for most of his life. Some of those ruins might very well have been built by him. In her new book, Mogollon Mountain Men: Nat Straw, Grizzly Hunter and Trapper, Carolyn O'Bagy Davis tells Straw's incredible story while illuminating the history of the region. She'll be at Bound To Be Read (6300 San Mateo NE, 828-3500) on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. to discuss and sign the book.
