Big Booty
Doug from The Box Performance Space (1025 Lomas NW, 404-1578) gave me a ring last week to make sure I’d received a calendar listing, and we got to chatting about improv classes and the like. Turns out The Box hosts an improv night every Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. called Big Booty Improv Jam . It’s free and everyone’s invited to participate. I was like, Whaaaat? How’ve I been missing that? All you drama types get over there.
Lieutenant Of Inishmore
The Fusion Theatre Company has been putting out a number of fantastic performances lately (see my review of Doubt , Aug. 30-Sept. 5) and this weekend marks the opening of its next theatrical endeavor, The Lieutenant of Inishmore . Written by Irish playwright Martin McDonagh, Lieutenant is a dark farce about the hypocrisy of violence. It follows the tale of Irish National Liberation Army enforcer Mad Padraic and his search for the killer of his favorite cat. The Lieutenant of Inishmore won the 2003 Olivier Award for best new comedy, the Obie for best play in 2006 and was nominated for five Tonys. See it at The Cell (700 First Street NW), opening on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 8 p.m. and running Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. until Nov. 18.
