Romeo, Romeo— Where the hell are you, Romeo? The Albuquerque Little Theatre is looking for 12 men and eight women, teenaged and up, to take part in a new production of Shakespeare’s romantic suicidal classic. The play, directed by Peter Kierst, opens in January. Auditions will take place at the theater (224 San Pasquale SW) this Saturday, Nov. 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 19, from 7 to 10 p.m. with possible callbacks on Monday, Nov. 20. Expect to deliver cold readings from the script. All parts, apparently even the biggies, are still open, so aim big! 242-4750.

Shanghai Quartet
China Stars— The world-famous Shanghai Quartet returns to Albuquerque this weekend for a performance presented by Chamber Music Albuquerque. The foursome can whip out a Chinese folk tune as easily as a Bartok quartet and often performs new commissions by such contemporary composers as Lowell Lieberman and Bright Sheng. The concert occurs this Sunday, Nov. 19, at 3 p.m. at the Simms Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Albuquerque Academy (6400 Wyoming NE). Tickets are $19 to $38 (in advance) and $21 to $40 (at the door). There’ll be a free pre-concert lecture at 2 p.m. Order tickets by calling 268-1990.

Frog and Toad— Bring the kids over to the South Broadway Cultural Center (1025 Broadway SE) starting this week for a performance of A Year with Frog and Toad , a musical based on the award-winning children’s books by Arnold Lobel. Presented by The Growing Stage, the upbeat musical features a large cast and a score tinged with Dixieland jazz. The show runs through Dec. 3. Tickets are $15 general, $13 students/seniors.
