Poetry Weekend— How much poetry can you cram into a single weekend? Well, you won’t know till you give it your best effort, will you? April is National Poetry Month, and Albuquerque aims to end the month of prime versifying with a final blaze of glory.This weekend’s events all revolve around an intriguing exhibit running at 516 Arts. Artists were invited to respond to two volumes of new poetry, Mortar and Pestle by local poet Lisa Gill and Terrain Tracks by New York poet Purvi Shah. The result is called Tributaries , an exhibit located upstairs at 516 running through May 12.On Friday, April 27, at 8 p.m. the two poets will be at the Outpost Performance Space (210 Yale SE) for a performance combining poetry with Indian classical and avant-garde music. Tickets are $15 general, $10 Outpost members. Assane Kouyate
Heart of Africa— West African choreographer and dance instructor Assane Kouyate is a master at merging various African dance forms from Ghana, Mali, Nigeria, Guinea and Senegal with live drumming and singing.
