Stuff Me Full of Art— La Quiche Parisienne Bistro opened about half a year ago at 401 Copper NW, a mere block from Alibi Headquarters. The bakery/restaurant is a huge blessing for Downtown. Great sandwiches, great soups, great pastries. Unfortunately, this means a mere 200 yards separates my desk from a chocolate croissant at any given moment. It’s dangerous.These days, there’s a reason to visit La Quiche that doesn’t involve stuffing your face. (Although, while you’re there, you might as well indulge.) Gary Eugene Jefferson has an exhibit of mixed media paintings up on the bistro’s walls. You might have seen Jefferson’s paintings around town. He’s been in a couple of shows around Albuquerque in recent years. I dig his art, which mixes abstract expressionism with down-to-earth figurative elements—Absolut vodka bottles, vases, musicians, etc.—floating in smeary clouds and streaks of paint.The restaurant is planning to rotate Jefferson’s paintings once a month. Stop by anytime to grab some delicious French cuisine and a glimpse of this talented artist’s creations.If you want to meet the artist himself, stop by next month for a reception on Friday, July 13, from 5 to 8 p.m. For details, call 242-2808.
