Yjastros company founder and director Joaquin Encinias is a fourth generation flamenco dancer. He joined a dance troupe at the age of 5 and become a soloist at 12. This weekend, Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company will perform the choreography of Encinias as well as that of Israel Galvan, Yolanda Heredia and Omayra Amaya during an evening of flamenco music and dance at the National Hispanic Cultural Center on Oct. 17 and 18. Culture Shock Comedy For Kids
Youth is a more accurate term, actually. Youth Development, Inc. —a nationally recognized organization dedicated to educational, developmental and humanitarian assistance to youth and families—invites you to join in a night of stand-up comedy with Steven Michael Quezada and Kenny King to support YDI’s community-building programs. Culture Shock Seize La Día
La Raza Unida and CAMBIO are prepping for their 16 th annual Day of the Dead Parade , making floats and holding art workshops every Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at 803 La Vega SW until the procession on Nov. 2. The grand masquerade, also known as the Día de los Muertos Marigold Parade, celebrates the Mexican holiday by bringing people together to share culture, food, music and art. Culture Shock Bandelier Bazaar
Every year, Bandelier Elementary School hosts a holiday bazaar as a fundraiser, asking local artisans to donate their work, in whole or in part, to aid the terrific Banda Bears.
