Writing this column is proving much more challenging than I anticipated. For the past three years, my life has been a whirlwind of activity, and the Alibi has been at the epicenter. I’ve learned many lessons, made lifelong friends and been a proud member of the kick-ass team behind Albuquerque’s award-winning alternative newsweekly—which makes my departure that much harder.As you read this, I will have already vacated my Alibi office and started my new job as the director of operations for Warehouse 508, Albuquerque’s youth arts and entertainment space. You know, the organization taking over the infamous Ice House space. Although it’s hard for me to leave my job as the arts and literature editor, I cannot envision a more ideal environment in which to make this transition. Not only will I be working hard to empower Albuquerque’s youth through art and music, but there are two well-deserving people taking over my posts at the Alibi .With honor, I’ll be the first to introduce Erin Adair-Hodges—the new arts and literature editor, though she’s not new to the Alibi . For the past nine months, Erin has been our part-time copy editor, in addition to working as a part-time faculty member in CNM’s English department. Her extensive background in literature, which includes an MFA in poetry, paired with her love for the performing and fine arts, makes her the ideal person to slide in as I make my way out. I’m beyond confident that Erin will excel at offering a wide range of coverage on Albuquerque’s flourishing arts scene. Adam is also a current Alibi staffer—he started as an intern and was later hired on as the office manager/receptionist. His attention to detail and sponge-like ability to learn new tasks earned him this one-way ticket into the throngs of the editorial department.
