When I saw the movie Babe several years back, the hit flick about a lovable sheep-herding pig, I literally cheered during the climactic herding competition that caps off the film (much to the chagrin of my wife, who also has a pig fixation, though she's much less vocal about it). Now David Wood has adapted the story into Babe: The Sheep Pig, “a captivating play for children young and old.” Let's hope it lives up to the daring porcine brilliance of the original.

Don't worry. They aren't coming to get you. These big creepy puppets might look sinister but they're actually quite friendly. On Sunday, July 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the gals from Out ch'Yonda will personally introduce these good-natured puppets at OFFCenter (117 Seventh NW). The giant puppets were created during a series of puppet-making workshops at OFFCenter. The giant constructions will be worn during a parade and theatrical performance at the upcoming Aug. 14 Folk Art Festival to be held at Robinson Park at Eighth and Central.
Anyone who wants to take part in the puppet mania can show up on Sunday to borrow themselves a puppet of their very own. The Out ch'Yonda gals need between 15 and 20 volunteers to participate in their glorious puppet masterpiece. If you want to bring your own wearable big creepy puppet, you are invited to do so.
