The Fusion Theatre Company's latest project is a new production of Henrik Ibsen's play Hedda Gabler, using a contemporary translation by Doug Hughes. Jacqueline Reid will play the title role, which is one of the most complex and profound female characters ever created. She'll be supported by a cast made up of some of Albuquerque's best theatrical talent, under the direction of Joe Feldman.

The show opens this Thursday, April 28, with a catered gala beginning at 7 p.m. at the Cell Theatre (700 First Street NW). The actual performance begins at 8 p.m. Reservations are recommended.

Hedda Gabler runs Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. through May 22. $22 general, $17 students/seniors. Thursdays (excluding opening night) feature a $10 student rush (with valid ID) and a $15 actor rush (with professional résumé). 766-9412.

Culture Shock

It's very difficult to grow up in suburbia without eventually lashing out against it. There's just something about those manicured lawns and generic, overly maintained homes lined up in cute little rows that just makes you want to start breaking things.

Eric Bogosian's Suburbia taps into that undercurrent of sickness perhaps better than any play ever written. Director Aaron Worley brings this sadistic little piece of theatrical magic to life starting this weekend at the Vortex Theatre (2004 1/2 Central SE). Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. $10 general, $8 students/seniors. Sundays at 6 p.m. $8. Runs through May 21. 247-8600.
